Funding for COVID-19 test kits

Standard Bank Malawi has donated 3000 test kits worth 25 million Kwacha to Ministry of Health as a contribution towards the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation brings to 115 million Kwacha the money the bank has channeled towards the fight against the pandemic since the first case was diagnosed in Malawi in March this year.

The test kits will complement the efforts of continuous testing across the country at a time when there are more local transmissions as compared to imported cases.

Standard Bank Malawi Chief Executive, William Le Roux, says the bank’s contribution towards the fight comes out of a desire to aid Malawi’s development agenda which is best supported by a healthy nation.

“Our contribution to fight the pandemic is all about protecting lives, economies, jobs and aspirations. Standard Bank believes in the potential and aspirations of Malawi and her people such that any disruption to livelihoods is our great concern. Malawi is our home and we drive her growth. At a time when we are faced with a crisis in our home, we are obliged to respond,” he says.

“As a bank, our philosophy now is inscribed in our newly-adopted brand promise “IT CAN BE”. Seen in the context of the pandemic and the rising number of cases in Europe and elsewhere, urgent measures to provide lasting solutions in halting the spread of the virus and bring the nation back to normalcy are required. Increasing the capacity to test will enable us to prevent the increase in infection”, says Le Roux.
