First line of defence

Regular hand washing, for at least 20 seconds at a time, remains one of the most important preventative measures recommended by global and local health authorities to minimise the spread of COVID-19. However, for many people throughout Africa, access to clean and safe water is a challenge.  

To solve this problem, Lesotho Red Cross Society (LRCS), Standard Lesotho Bank and Petroleum Fund partnered to roll out 30 tippy tanks for hand washing in crowded areas across the country. 

The Mokhotlong district is the largest beneficiary of this partnership, with six tanks installed across the district. Other districts will get a minimum of three tippy tanks that will be built in populous areas such as taxi ranks, chiefs’ compounds, schools and government offices.
